We could barely wait to tell everyone about our new pizza. But now it’s here and this is the official press release that broke the news. Check it out.
Celebrating 50th Year, Domino’s Pizza Gives Itself a Makeover
Domino’s reinventing its pizza with seasoned crust, robust sauce, shredded cheese
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Dec 16, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ — Approaching 50 years in the business, Domino’s Pizza (NYSE: DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, announced today it is changing its core pizza recipe. With a new garlic seasoned crust, robust sauce and more flavorful shredded cheese, Domino’s new hand-tossed pizza has been reinvented to deliver more taste — and Domino’s is backing it up with a guarantee.
Rolling out over the course of the next few weeks, Domino’s new pizza will be in all U.S. stores beginning December 27.
“2010 will be our 50th year in the business, and we are kicking it off with the most aggressive promotion in the history of our company,” said Domino’s Chairman and CEO David A. Brandon. “This is the biggest product introduction we’ve done since…well, pizza.”
The primary changes include:
-Crust: A garlic seasoned crust with parsley baked to a golden brown
-Sauce: Sweeter, bolder tomato sauce with a medley of herbs and a red
pepper kick
-Cheese: Shredded cheese made with 100% real mozzarella and flavored
with just a hint of provolone
Reinventing the Domino’s Brand
“The fact is, we love our pizza, but as times change, so do consumer tastes,” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We’ve created a pizza to reflect what consumers are looking for. We’re not talking about a slightly-altered version of our previous pizza. It’s a completely new pizza reinvented from the crust up, and we are proud of it. To us, it’s as big as McDonald’s changing the Big Mac, or Burger King reinventing the Whopper. We spent the last 18 months reinventing the brand in anticipation of our 50th anniversary.”
Weiner noted that more than 80 percent of the Domino’s menu is new since 2008. Added to the menu since that time:
-Oven Baked Sandwiches, available in eight delicious varieties
-Domino’s American Legends, a line of premium specialty pizzas
-Breadbowl Pasta, five varieties of pasta baked into a seasoned bread
bowl
-Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes, oven-baked chocolate cakes, crunchy on the
outside, with warm flowing chocolate fudge inside
“The cherry on the top of all this recent innovation is our newly-inspired pizza,” said Weiner. “Our inspiration came from the thousands of direct consumer feedback messages on several social media channels.
“Over a two-year period, we tested dozens of cheeses, 15 sauces, and nearly 50 crust seasoning blends and researched every possible combination with customers who order from us all the time and customers who haven’t tried us in years. Our extensive research showed that the new pizza is significantly improved over our previous pizza.”
Great Value Offer with Ads Featuring Real Domino’s Team Members
Domino’s Pizza will be marketing this new pizza aggressively in the next several weeks with advertising on many top-rated entertainment and sports programs, sampling opportunities throughout the country and a strong web-based presence, Weiner said.
The special introductory offer will be 2 medium, 2 topping pizzas for $5.99 each.
Advertising produced by creative agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky will include documentary-style anecdotes featuring real Domino’s Pizza team members. The spots, filmed at Domino’s World Resource Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan will show how the company took on the challenge of changing the negative perceptions of some consumers nationwide.
Putting Our Money Where Your Mouth Is
“We’ve long been known for service,” said Weiner. “With this new pizza we are convinced Domino’s can be known for both quality and service. That’s why we’re introducing this new pizza with a guarantee: If you are not completely satisfied with your Domino’s pizza experience, we will make it right or refund your money.
“The entire company has been involved in this,” Weiner continued. “From our CEO to our franchisees; from our supply chain division to our supply partners; from our product development team to our marketers — everyone has had a hand in reinventing our pizza.”

Your website says that your new sauce is “sweeter”. Can you tell me the number of milligrams of sugar in it? Type 1 Diabetics have to be careful about how much sugar we eat. Thanks
Jay | on January 8, 2010
After 50 years the decide to mess up something that not only worked but tasted great. I remember when New Coke came out and flopped, quickly “Classic Coke” was introduced. Who was the ad wizard who came up with this one????????????????????? RIP Domino’s, although they will quickly realize their Jay Leno mistake and bring back the old pizza, while dumping the new Conan edition.
connie | on January 10, 2010
New Domino’s Pizza is very good and very greasy.
JASON | on January 11, 2010
NEW RECIPIE SUCKS I DONT LIKE IT ITS TO FAKE GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS OR ILL GO TO ANOTHHER PLACE TO GET MY PIZZA AFTER 30 YEARS OF I QUIT YOUR PIE TILL YOU BRING BACK THE OLD RECIPIE
Debbie | on January 19, 2010
We did not like it either. It did not taste very good and was kinda spicey for us. Like the original version much much better. We will go to anothe pizza place for our pizzas now.
Nicole | on January 20, 2010
I def agree with you for now on I will be ordring from papa john’s until they bring back the old way it was made. I have been ordering this pie for 23 years and not another day will I order from dominos
Tim | on January 20, 2010
Not only did I enjoy the new recipe pizza, I enjoyed the whole ordering experience… including that unbelievable pizza tracker of the future. I was so floored by the pizza tracker of the future that I put up a dedicated blog post:

Your interpretation of the English language is dazzling. Go back to school, Jason. You suck.
david | on January 31, 2010
nicole, dont order from papa johns either.i had some years ago and found a bone in the italian sausage.it ended up chipping a tooth.papa johns response was to offer half off the next pizza.and some people cant eat anything with any spice to it so go ahead and take domimos up on their money bagk offer.make the order, call and say you dont like it.then when enough people dont like it and the have to keep either replacing pizzas or refunding money enough times they will see that bringing back the original would make the most finacial sense.the part that makes the new pizza suck is mostly the new sauce.the seasoned crust could be used as an option but dump the new sauce.
Antionette | on January 31, 2010
I AGREE!! I HATE the “new” pizza. The guy at my local Dominos said yo can order whatever you like just ask for the regular pizza not the new crust!!
Mark | on January 23, 2010
You are correct, it is greasy. I couldn’t even eat it. I feel the old recipe was much better. I will never order it again.
Bill | on January 11, 2010
I must be the only one, but the new sauce is too peppery for me. I was able to eat one slice.
Unfortunately, after ordering Domino’s since 1984, I simply cant do it any more. Pity.
Ranierguy | on January 11, 2010
I agree. Too peppery. They advertise if you don’t like it they will refund the total price, but they don’t tell you how to get the refund.
Raye | on January 16, 2010
COMPELTELY AGREE WITH YOU- SEEMS LIKE FALSE ADVERTISING TO ME, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW, I’M JUST NOT A DOMINO’S LOVER ANYMORE!!!!
Todd | on January 17, 2010
Please, where do we ask for a refund on this? I just had one of these ‘new’ pizzas today and it was terrible. Nasty after-taste and sandpaper texture. I guess time will tell, but this is worse than the ‘New Coke’ transtion in the 80s. At least the wings and pasta bowls didn’t get messed up (right?), otherwise I would have no need of Domino’s services at all.
Patty | on January 18, 2010
They just lost another long-time customer. Sauce too spicy and my lips are burning from the garlic crust.

I agree with you Bill. I have ordered thier pizza for several years.NO MORE. i cann’t stand them ay more . I’ll be going elseware to get my pizza. Harry
tiffany | on January 23, 2010
I AGREE 100%. I ordered it once threw the whole nasty pie in the trash, emailed DOMINOS and they suggested I try it without the overpowering garlic crust on the house. It was still gross. I suggested to the representative who talked to me on the phone they should have kept the old recipe for those who don’t enjoy the new and they will be able to keep the business. He told me that wouldn’t happen. My family has been eating Dominos for more than 25 years. It was sometimes the only thing I knew I would like eating when we went out of town. Even on road trips we would go off the highway in search of Dominos to get pizza instead of like fast food, and eat in the car. We were hard core lovers of Dominos. I just don’t understand why they changed it since it was working for long-time loyal customers. Especially ones like me and my family who will no longer eat their pies. I am a hard core pizza lover in general, so I still pizza. But the hometown NY style pizza that I like (MONA LISA 455 S LYNNHAVEN) is about 30 mins away, So I don’t eat pizza as much. One good thing is I have lost 5 pounds due to replacing this easy meal with a healthier home cooked choice. If they bring the original back I will come running.
Lynn | on January 21, 2010
Obviously, anyone who liked the original Dominos likes bland and cardboard. I never would eat it. But, whoa, Baby, the new pizza rocks. Anyone who doesn’t like this should go back to making Chef Boy-R-Dee at home.
Keith | on January 19, 2010
I agree, we were longtime loyal customers and have now switched to Papa John’s. It’s funny if you read many of the comments on here this is causing quite a protest reaction. I don’t think this new pizza will last six months, they will lose all of their loyal customers like me who bought twice a week. Their guarantee is a load of hog wash too. I complained and customer service was very defensive and never even responded to my second e-mail. No refund for me apparently.
jon | on January 19, 2010
I totally agree, this new crust is terrible and the sauce is worse than what they had.
I do not want a refund. They caught me with this trist, never again. Pizza Hut is number one for a reason!
Dori | on January 24, 2010
I loved your “old” pizza. After weeks of seeing you new add, I convinced my husband to give it a try. It sucked! The crust was gooey, it was the worst pizza we ever had. We each had 2 pieces and threw the rest out.
Tim | on January 26, 2010
What I think is the stupid part of the change is, they just put it out there with no options maybe for the old style. Its this or nothing, for me its nothing but another pizza chain. There are other pizza chains that you can get different style and flavors maybe they should have tried that first. They have made billions on the old style, why change it if your not going to give the options of getting the old style. Good luck Dominos you lost me as a customer even if you bring back the old pizza just because you all are idiots for making this stupid move.
Antionette | on January 31, 2010
You can still get the regular pizza just ask for it when you order it.
Richard A. White | on February 2, 2010
Preach on Jay. I ordered 2 pizzas and didn’t know about the stupid new crust and sauce. I just thought the local place made a mistake. It was okay, but NOT DOMINO’S!!! Too bad I didn’t know about the return or else that would have been my first phone call.
Like others, the new sauce and crust are HORRIBLE!!! The best part about ordering from Domino’s was knowing what you were going to get and why it grew to the company it is. Don’t change because you think you have to. Add to what brought you to where you are, but do not throw what got you there away.

they put some really overwhelming green seasoning all over my pizza and it ruined everything, it tasted so horrible we threw away all of our pizzas. my husband liked the handtossed until this new improved stuff came around, he even threw out his pizza cause he couldn’t stand the new crust. We ordered pizza 2x a month at $30-$35 each visit from our local dominos, now we won’t be spending a dime there. The new improved is the most disgusting thing we have ever tasted.
elise | on January 18, 2010
I agree-it is the mushiest cheese I have ever had-who ever heard of mozzarella without stringiness? the garlic is overwhelming and the crust is greasy. we were not great fans before, only buying it because my 16 year old liked it, now we wont buy any more. My 16 year old will have to learn to like something else.
Shindig | on January 11, 2010
Dear Dominos:
Your pizzas about 25 years ago were excellent. At the time, everyone I knew could not order – or eat – enough. At some point (perhaps about 15 years ago), there was a shift in the way you made the pizza which resulted in a marked decrease in flavor, quality, and, of course, your share of the pizza market. Instead of trying to reinvent your pizza, why not simply make the same pizzas you did 25 years ago? Surely, there must be someone other than me who recalls just how good those pizzas used to be.
I did try the new pizza. Only a slight improvement, in my opinion. If you really want to gain market share and customers, bring back the old recipe, ingredients, and quality.
Sincerely,
A Former Dominos Fanatic
atm | on January 11, 2010
I echo you comment about the pizza 25 years ago. It was fabulous back then. Really incredible pizza. I ordered Dominos multiple times a week in college. The crust, cheese, quality and amount of the toppings were better than homemade. Bring THAT pizza back and I’ll be back as a customer.
smart1 | on January 19, 2010
I agree! The old, old pizza was awesome. Then it got mediocre. Now it just plain sucks! That garlic spread on the the crust is nasty and who in their right mind would put canned frickin’ tomatoes on a pizza? Gross! I’m switching to Round Table or P.Hut!
Michael | on January 31, 2010
I agree completely. Dominos made a great pie in days long past, but no longer. As a traveler spending 200+ nights a year in hotels, pizza is a twice a week staple for me. For the last 10 yrs, Dominos has never been first choice, unless they were the only place in town. I decided to give the new recipe a try last night, and absolutely hated it. I’m sorry, but I have to say that I’ve sampled my last Dominos Pizza.
the cheese man | on January 12, 2010
Hilarious! Hint of provolone FLAVOR!? Yes they spray an artificial provo flavor on their FROZEN, made in 8 hours cheese!! Or should I say FROZEN DAIRY PRODUCT SOLIDS with a little ANTI-CAKING AGENT added. Yes, that is the Dominos cheese. Don’t feel bad, The Hut and PJ’s also uses frozen cheese.
Brad | on January 12, 2010
Domnios was the #1 in sales for a reason…instead of listening to the unsatisfied customers maybe they should keep their best customers (the one’s who made them #1 in sales) happy. Tried the new recipe and it was honestly the worst pizza I have ever had. Please change the recipe back to the original!!
Patty | on January 18, 2010
Seconded, Please change the recipe back to the original!!
conneeconehead | on January 13, 2010
I didn’t like the old Domino’s pizza sauce as it tasted too sweet. If the new sauce is sweeter, I guess I will not be trying out your new pizza. And sure hope you ditched the rubbery, canned mushrooms in favor of fresh ones?
scott ager | on January 20, 2010
Agree. I noticed an increase in sugar years ago, the same as the way Spaghetti-Os was modified for American kids’ sweet tooth. More anise and oregano and less sugar will make it more old-world authentic.
Jill | on January 30, 2010
We ordered 2 pizzas. The topings and cheese were ok but I have no idea what the sauce tastes like, the pizza was very dry. I thought they forgot to put sauce on it but I did find a little bit. It was also greasy. I was disappointed. It did taste spicer, so the spice must be i the crust or maybe spicer pepperoni.
Heather | on January 16, 2010
The new sauce isn’t sweeter…It’s spicier and the new pizza just plain sucks…save your money don’t waste it.
hpatel | on January 23, 2010
Forget about Sugar, we need to know butter also. Really whatever they have done is wrong. Crust flavor is nice but its not even backing properly. They should have kept the old flavor available.

this new pizza is worse than the old one ,this pizza was AWFULL I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY FROM YOU GUYS!
Sean | on January 26, 2010
Dominos Pizza has ruined a great thing. I had worked there for 6 years when I was younger and loved their pizza, as had my family for a long time. We now order pizza from a local Jerrys instead of eating this atrocity that Dominos offers. I would like the old pizza brought back!!!
P.J. | on February 12, 2010
I am in the don’t like it at all camp!!! I have enjoyed Dominos pizza for 20 years the old way and will not get pizza from Dominos any more due the change. I think they are trying to sell it as “better” but it is a move to make their pizza cheaper to compete with the $5 pizza’s like Little Caesars and the cheaper pizza’s now a Pizza Hut. At least that is what it looks like in our area. Anyway, the new version sucks!!!
Dave Bigart | on January 27, 2010
HOW CAN ANYONE TELL THAT THE SAUCE IS DIFFERENT.WHEN THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY SAUCE OIN THE PIZZA

I didn’t like the 5.99 special garlic salty crust , taste like pizza hut too salty too greasy not good for anyone. 1980s it was large and thin crust with real dough not bready NEXT…

Wanted a pizza, so I hit my speed dial number for Domino’s. Ordered the same pie I always get, except this one was my first experience with the new receipe. It was AWFUL!!! I swear at one point I bit into a clump of oregano. I almost threw-up. Why you would change something that made you #1 in pizza delivery I don’t understand. I will not be ordering from you agian until you bring back the old receipe (as it was). I have deleted you from my phone and replaced you with the local Papa John’s.

Rachel M | on January 15, 2010
I can definitely say the crust is a huge improvement. I agree that I think some of you have encountered cooks who have trouble doing a decent pizza. Mine was not greasy whatsoever and we had extra sauce and extra cheese. The crust tasted like breadsticks and was quite delicious. A cup of marinara sauce would have gone great with the crust.
The sauce, on the other hand, was disgusting. I loved the old dominos and was very disappointed that I did not have an option for the original sauce. I found the initial overly sweet taste followed by a burning pepper taste to be an odd combination. The herbs were delicious and helped the flavor, but overall I couldn’t stand the sweet burn it left in my mouth. I wasn’t sure what “hearty marinara” meant either. I would have selected that if there were any place letting me know what the sauce was like. Unfortunately, my local dominos employees could not enlighten me as to what “hearty” meant (whether it was chunky, which would definitely be gross) or what it even tasted like, nor did the internet provide any description.
Ultimately, I miss the old dominos and wish they would go back to the taste I loved. I don’t think I’ll be ordering again for a long while. To me, the sauce makes or breaks the pizza – Dominos, you broke it.
JustAJoe | on January 11, 2010
Cophi, here’s a simple solution for you:
Go behind the grocery store, grab a car load of cardboard, stop by McDonald’s and snatch some free katchup packs, stash it all in the garage and you can have the old pizza with 5 minute delivery at a price that can’t be beat!
JT | on December 21, 2009
Why on earth would someone make pizza sauce SWEETER? Pizza sauce already has too much sugar in it. With diabetes and obesity on the rise in this country and around the world you only propulgating these disorders by adding more sugar to something that already has too much. Sadly, I will not be ordering Domino’s pizza anymore. I will encourage my friends not to either. Domino’s should be reducing the amount of sugar or other sweetener in their sauce. People do not need more added sugar to their foods.
Nancy | on January 7, 2010
I love it and especially the new crust – are you guys kidding me about the health concerns? You’re eating at DOMINOS and saying you won’t be ordering from there anymore because they added a little sugar? Like it was so good for you before? Dominos has never claimed to be a health conscious franchise – they are about taste and splurging. The new pizza is great and I can tell they ealy put some time into developing it.
Laura Keeping | on January 7, 2010
I second that emotion!!
Chuck Blier | on January 8, 2010
They made it sweeter JT because some PAPA John’s and Pizza Hut fans told them they didn’t like Dominos pizza. Well, I don’t like Papa John’s! NOT EVEN IN A DOMINOS BOX!!!!!!!!!
Debi Borglit | on January 9, 2010
you guys don’t understand culinary terms well. Chefs say pork is sweet, tomatoes are sweet, some peppers are sweet. Sweet does not automatically = sugar or dessert.
Disappointed Pizza Fan | on December 21, 2009
Bring back the old crust!!! This crust is way too greasy…and who wants butter flavoring on their pizza? It tastes more like pizza flavored buttered popcorn. I will not ever order this new pizza again instead I will go thin crust.
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
If you prefer the crust without the garlic seasoning that’s no problem at all, just let us know when you call in and we’ll hold it off of your pizza.
Joseph Brudlos | on December 21, 2009
The crust seasoning is way over the top – putting butter and Parmesan cheese on the crust doesn’t make it better – it just makes it salty, messy and greasy
I think you made a mistake with this one.
Lisa rehan | on December 21, 2009
Horrible! No different than before other than garlic in the crust. Cheese doesn’t melt all the way. What type of real cheese doesn’t melt? Mushy and tasteless. the worst pizza we’ve ever had!!!
CATHY from Green, OH | on January 7, 2010
Lisa,
Think of the type of “cheese” which melts quickly…Velveeta. Therefore, you’re incorrect in your thinking about cheeses and their melting capabilities. There are soft cheeses and hard cheeses and they are all “real” cheese.
Jeff Allen Jones | on December 21, 2009
The sauce is great! Huge difference. Much better taste.
Jacob | on January 8, 2010
I could not agree more!! Much more flavor in the sauce!
John Kokolski | on December 22, 2009
We need to do better. We must do better. I am as committed a Domino’s person as you are ever going to find. In the past, I have written about Domino’s as part of my internet columns. I use a picture of myself in uniform on both my FB page and in chat rooms. I am known as a loyal employee and have been with a franchisee for 9 years. You have done some great things with the pasta, sandwiches and other items. What we need to do now is focus on execution. A new product will get the customer to try us, but in order to keep them we need to deliver a good, hot product and do it faster and better than anyone else.
12 year pizza worker | on January 11, 2010
Not going to happen. For every new thing you do and publicize, some other chain or mom/pop place will see how it affects them, and then they’ll raise their bar. You can only go so high before you reach impossible. The successful company sticks with what works for them and does not change unless it is dictated. One must be sure that the majority wants the changes before they are implemented, or you become like “new coke”. And if Corporate obsesses too much over quality, demanding perfection rather than excellence, you’ll lose employees to being fired or quitting.
JustAJoe | on January 11, 2010
“And if Corporate obsesses too much over quality, demanding perfection rather than excellence, you’ll lose employees to being fired or quitting.”
Yes, losing employees like you should be the result of trying to please thier customers….
Bob | on January 20, 2010
News for you bud, the 12 year pizza worker, if you haven’t figured it out yet, you’re stuck at Domino’s because you (chose to) have no marketable skill. The shareholders know this, “corporate” knows this, and you’re replaceable in a second. You are not valuable to the company at all, you are a peon that gets marching orders and is fired if you are out of step.
Kelly G. | on December 22, 2009

Greg A | on December 22, 2009
I understand innovation and change. I know the idea probably had merit unfortunately, I have to agree with many here. Dominos has always been my preference, however, I was not a fan of the new pizza. For those in my age group… New Coke, take two.
Denise | on January 10, 2010
I agree wholeheartedly. As a matter of fact, I came to this site specifically to vote against this “improvement.” Italian foods do not as a matter of course have hot pepper in the sauces. Why did Dominoes think they had to change the flavor AWAY from traditional Italian seasonings? If someone would start a petition to offer the original taste as an alternative (like Coke did), I would sign. By way, does New Coke even exist anymore?
David | on January 10, 2010
Same thing..coming here to vote against…I saw the TV ad and said “OK, I’ll give it a try and see if any better.” Guess what..still taste like cardboard and not enough sauce. fooled me once but not again.

I don’t like the garlic crust. I ordered last night and knew nothing about the change. They should at least tell people when they order that they changed the pizza. Nobody in my family liked it. I hope they will at least give people the option of having the garlic crust or the origianal crust.
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
If you’re not a garlic fan that’s no problem, you can call the store and let them know that you’d like your pizza without the garlic crust.
Arnie D | on January 9, 2010
Is the new crust really supposed to taste like garlic? I mean, it looked like it should, but instead it was more like eating cardboard (in taste, texture, and ease of chewing). I didn’t know about the new pizza either when I ordered 3 mediums the other day, but I won’t be making that mistake again. The local pizza places in my area may cost more, but at least they actually have good food and don’t completely change the good things they’ve already got into crud.
renea | on January 10, 2010
my husband is a garlic lover beyond anyone can imagine, but this new crust, in his words, “utterly disgusting.” Dominos was the only way to go, but now, we are looking elsewhere. We will never order a pizza from there until things are changed, the seasonings were overwhelming and disgusting to where we couldn’t taste the pizza. Money back guarantee is not the way to go, but maybe you’ll get lucky and get customers like myself who don’t like to make a scene about things and you’ll be able to keep the last dollar you’ll be getting from us.
Tim | on January 26, 2010
Yeah no garlic crust but how about the new sause, you can’t get the old style can you. That is a lot of peoples point. Bring back the old pizza as a option or suffer the loss of a lot of your loyal customer base.
jerry | on December 22, 2009
i lived in Texas and had always great pizza from Domino’s. i recently moved to Pittsburgh, pa., and
the Domino’s pizza here SUCKS!!! Not only is it tasteless, the dough is more like cardboard. I tried several times and finally gave up. The last time i ordered, it was the worst….called for a refund and the store manager prety much blew me off saying that it was me, not the pizza. The only way i would try your new pizza, is if it were free…then maybe i wouldn’t get burned!
Lexi | on December 22, 2009
Why ‘change?’ I loved the crust and the sauce the way it was. Hope it tastes good and I get a chance to try it but my family isn’t too crazy about this whole thing…
Josh | on December 22, 2009
I liked the new pizza
Nick | on December 22, 2009
I hadn’t noticed the sauce, still tastes amazing as usual, however the new crust is PERFECT. Tastes like breadsticks, it’s a delicious treat at the end of the slice!
Michael | on December 22, 2009
At the very least, offer the old crust as an option. This garlic crust is crap.
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
No garlic is an option, you can call the store and tell them to make your pizza without garlic.
Tim | on January 26, 2010
but not the old sauce
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
No garlic on the crust is definitely an option, you can call the store and ask for your next pizza without the garlic.
Joel | on December 22, 2009
Hey everyone,
I used to work for Mike Orcutt who is one of the biggest Dominos franchisees in the nation. The problem wasn’t the pizza it was the execution. I owned my own pizza place but now I have my own commercial real estate company. The CARDBOARD taste everyone is referring to is the dough not being used properly. Using dough to early the yeast will not have fermented enough yet to produce a nice brown color with great flavor and used to late it will have a flat to bitter taste. Dominos crust and pizza made correctly the old way tastes awesome. The benefit of putting butter and garlic on the new crust is it will hide the fact the dough is to green to use or to old to use. Just like Dominos and other companies use fillers in their meats instead of 100 percent meat to give flavor for a cheaper price. Many people do not like red pepper plus will have problems with GERD and acid reflux with the spices and the diabetic issues with the sugar content.
The problem with all companies is they test a new product under optimum conditions in a lab. Then when they roll out that product it is executed poorly or not properly and the result is not the same. I see this time and time again with all restaurants. You can have 2 different cooks making a product with the same ingredients and have one taste like crap and the other taste awesome.I hope Dominos has fall back to the original if this is not taken well. When we had complaints on pizza is was a crap cook and too new or old dough and yesterdays pizza sauce. We also had many awesome responses when it was made right. The goal is when you bite into the pizza to have a balance of the dough, cheese, and topping selected for a perfect taste. The greasy complaint is the cooks/drivers putting to much butter and seasoning on the pizza and also slapping the dough to thin in the middle where grease can pool. I will try this pizza and report back.
K | on January 11, 2010
Joel, I agree. But the hand tossed crust just isn’t getting it. Also, I have acid reflux and cannot eat any tomato based pizza sauce anyhow. I’ve known managers for Domino’s I have ordered from and they have made a really great pizza using what they had from commissary for years. Another problem is the use of pre cut, prepacked veggies and such. If you cannot get them fresh from the local produce place or commissary and take the time to fresh cut them, what good are they? Akin to canned mushrooms. Papa’s now in the house for me!
Josh | on December 22, 2009
Just ordered some. I have avoided Dominos for a long time because the pizza tasted like cardboard this however looks like it could change that. I’ll know in 30 mins
Andrew | on December 22, 2009
Wanting the old pizza crust badly. Time to find new pizza provider
Geri | on December 22, 2009
Are these changes mandatory? Or can we get the pizzas as we are counting on them to be?
James | on December 23, 2009
Bring back the old pizza! Dominos has always been my favorite pizza, and this caught me by surprise. The other night I ordered one, and when it came and I opened the box, I was like “this is NOT what I ordered.” Then I found out that you guys had changed your recipe. For the worse. It was TERRIBLE. Bring back the old one, or it looks like I’m just going to be enjoying the occasional order of Buffalo Wings from you guys.
Keith Vincent | on January 19, 2010
We had the same thing happen to us – Domino’s lost two customers that night, we’ve since switched to Papa John’s.
Nicole | on December 23, 2009
Wow! Dominos needs some major damage control now!
John | on December 23, 2009
The flavor is good, but the new crust is way too greasy. The box is soaked.
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
Our new butter, garlic crust might not be for everyone. But if you still want a hint of flavor, ask the store to go easy on the crust seasoning.
George | on December 23, 2009
I think Domino’s had to change their recipe. They were rated highly by consumers on cost and delivery, but low on taste/quality. The “cardboard tasteless pizza” must not have been cutting the mustartd when compared to pizza hut, pizza inn, and poppa john’s. If the old recipe was working, they would have kept it. It must not have been working and they knew they were losing market share and had to do something. I’m glad they made a new pizza. And a sweeter sauce with a more garlic flavor is a great idea to me! Oh yeah, I like greasy too! It keeps my bones lubricated. LOL
glenda | on December 23, 2009
I personally LOVE the new pizza. The new sauce is zesty. The crust is great with the garlic taste. You can even choose not to have the garlic put on if you want but why would I not want to. It taste GREAT. Dominos has the best now and forever.

Marcy | on December 23, 2009
not a fan! I like garlic…this is too much. Couldn’t even finish one slice.
Steven | on December 23, 2009
The “new” pizza grease and oil soaked the entire cardboard box and left a puddle of it on my front seat…enough said!
Brett | on December 23, 2009
We ordered pizza last night and I was disappointed at how bland it tasted compared to what I was used to. I did order extra cheese and extra sauce like I always, but I don’t believe I got extra sauce. Maybe that was the problem. Still, overall, the pizza tasted very bland compared to what I was familiar with.
Ed | on December 23, 2009
Everything is good (sauce, cheese, etc.) except the crust. Please, give the option for a garlic bread crust. I really don’t like the greasy and garlicky crust at all, bring back the old crust, it was fine back then.
Connie | on December 23, 2009
I just ordered the new pizza. Way too bold and spicy for me. My granddaughter won’t even eat it anymore. Please give us back the old hand-tossed or at least an option to choose. I won’t be ordering any more until it changes back.
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
We realize not everyone wants a “kick” from the sauce, so we suggest you ask for “hearty marinara” on your next order. It’s much closer to the previous recipe.
Bill | on January 11, 2010
Yes, but isn’t “hearty marinara” chunky? I don;t want a chunky pizza sauce or one with other typical marinara ingredients like onion.
Preg | on December 23, 2009
I liked Dominos pizzas before, and I like it even better now. I was never too fond of the sauce (always asked to go “light” on the sauce) and never ate the crust because it was so bland. When I ordered my usual pizza today, I ate each slice I picked up in its entirety. Garlic crust = Thumbs up from me! I do agree that maybe there should be an option to have the original crust, as I can understand that it might be too much for some people.
geiva | on December 23, 2009
Ordered the Brooklyn; believe the original dough is still being used; no complaints from that. The sauce is too runny. It seeped through the dough; couldn’t pick up a slice w/o breaking-off the front of the slice. This happened with all the slices. So, I have an outer pizza w/c is no problem and an inner pizza w/c is soggy, runny, gooey.
Michael Davis | on December 23, 2009
At first, I thought I just got a ‘bad one’…perhaps from an unsupervised trainee. Yuk! I had been a Domino’s fan over 20 years. I can’t express the extraordinary disappointment with that decision. It reminded me of a Totino’s frozen pizza, absoluely horrible taste. I thought the old sauce tasted fine, now its ruined. My dog looked unhappy when I threw it out, but he eats his own poop.
Rachel | on December 23, 2009
We just ordered a large pizza last night after over 5 years since it tasted like cardboard before. To say the least I was very disappointed and angry at myself for believing in this marketing ploy. Nothing has changed! They still use the same frozen pre made crust. But what can you expect from a mass produced pizza place who’s only concern is their bottom line.
James Hanks | on December 23, 2009
The new sauce is watery and crust was terrible. Will not be ordering Dominos anymore.

Samuel Thompson | on December 23, 2009
I’m not sure if I like the pizza. i ordered it last night not knowing that they’ve completely revamped the recipe. The garlic crust doesn’t TASTE bad, but it leaves the fingers feeling wayy too greasy and icky. Of course, you could say “just wipe them off”, but I enjoy using the crust as a nice clean handle. The cheese isn’t BAD, but it’ll take some getting used to. The sauce…. the sauce is the big “NO!” for me. I hate how it’s “sweeter”. Most say you can’t really tell, but sauce is the main thing for me. I enjoy a more spicy sauce. Not everyone does, but this doesn’t mean it should be “sweeter”. Why would you add more sugar to a sauce most people consider “too sweet and ‘flat’” already? I would at least like having the OPTION for the “new and improved” what the folks at Dominos don’t realize is that some people ENJOY the old pizza the same way they did the old coke. The main guy’s response was simply “most people had an acquired taste for coke already”. After 50 years, does he not believe other people have the same feelings for the pizza?
The new pizza is waayyy better. People are just so resistant to change, lol. To anyone here, keep in mind that these comments are not fully representative of peoples opinions. People with complaints are much more likely to comment than those who don’t have an issue with the pizza.
I was one of those who thought the old pizza was pretty bland in taste. Not bad, but nowhere near some of the better pizzas I’d had. I’m not so sure of that anymore. The way I see it, any company that’s willing to listen to consumer opinions and make a change listening to them is a good one in my book.
R.D. Baker | on December 24, 2009
First try of the new pizza last night. Very salty and greasy. The new tomato sauce is overly sweet . Is this Dominos version of the “New Coke”. I question whether my 20+ years of loyalty to the product will continue.

BAD PIZZA GARLIC MESS WHERE ARE THE BREATH MINTS!!!! BACK TO THE PAPA….
L. S. | on December 24, 2009
So, just ordered my first pizza online since you guys apparently changed the sauce and crust. I’m a pretty big fan of the new crust (kept licking my fingers after picking up a piece!), but the new sauce is DISGUSTING. Reminds me of Pizza Hut, and I haven’t bought a pizza from them since I was 8. It’s way too sweet, it’s watery, and ignore the few people with positive comments here– it’s LESS flavorful. It also gave me heartburn. I’ve NEVER experienced heartburn in my life, let alone from your pizzas, and yet… here we are, I’m so irritated that I’m whining on your corporate blog about the change. If you guys keep this change permanent and don’t allow people to choose the old-style sauce, you’re losing my business. It’s not even about me switching to a competitor’s chain (though we do have some good local pizza places); I’d rather have no pizza than get heartburn every time I order some. Please, guys, you’ve always been some of my favorite pizza people, even including places that aren’t chains; don’t go losing a bunch of current customers just to try to gain new ones! Pull a “New Coke” and tell people that you’ve switched back again suddenly, for all I care… I just want my pizza, and I REALLY want to give you guys my money! Seriously!
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
We would suggest you ask for “hearty marinara” on your next order, it’s much closer to the previous sauce recipe.
Doctor Funtimes | on December 24, 2009
nothing was wrong with the sauce before. ’sweeter’ does not = ‘better’, even for the american palate. now it tastes like papa ****’s sauce, which just happens to be the worst aspect of their recipe.
the crust could have been improved, but i could not tell due to the seasoning salt-fest going on. seriously, what is the deal with all of the seasoning salt?
i give props to any company with the cajones to make serious changes in the public eye, and it is painful for me since i live only a few hundred feet away from a domino’s, but i will most likely be switching pizza-store allegiances…..
Sarah J. | on December 25, 2009
I thought the above negative comments were from people just too sensitive about their pizza, or gung-ho about complaining. But then I got to try the new version. (I should also mention that I order weekly from you and have been a big fan of your chain in the past. Your service is excellent, delivery very quick and your menu offerings varied and all tasty.)
But now, count me in as one of the unhappy. Sorry, not a fan of the new pizza, Domino’s. The sauce: bland, I really couldn’t taste any tomato bite. It should be zesty, fresh-tasting, but I could only tell it was there because there was a red substance. I can see a tiny bit of sugar to bring out tomato flavor, but this is overkill. The crust: good dough, but the garlic sauce is terribly greasy and tastes old. The cheese: my local branch (Pittsfield, MA) tells me they have been using the new cheese for a while, so I have no complaints there.
The old hand-tossed version was really MUCH more flavorful and appealing. I ate 1 piece and could go no further on the new… Please PLEASE go back to your old version of sauce & crust as an option! Thank you!
terry | on December 25, 2009
My sons and I had the “new” pizza last night. All three of us were up all night with heartburn and nausea. I’ll never get Domino’s again. It’s been about 20 hours and I still feel sick.
Susan | on December 25, 2009
AWFUL. This is be remembered as the worst marketing decision in history. The new crust is greasy (just look at the bottom of box). I predict sales will drop 50% within a week, the old crust will be brought back, and many people at HQ will be replaced. First time in a long time that we threw away 75% of a pizza
Susan | on December 25, 2009
ps — at least the lava cakes are great. My son says he feels “dirty” after eating your new pizza
Regina | on December 25, 2009
The only food establishment I could find open tonight (Christmas Day) was a Domino’s. I took advantage of your 2 @ $5.99 each, 2 topping Hand Tossed offer. I ordered both pizzas with extra cheese; pepperoni and mushrooms were the other toppings for the two pizzas. No grease on mine; the chef applied very little of the crust seasoning to the pies. Except for the red pepper ‘finish’, I couldn’t taste the sauce at all under the cheese. While the baked pizza has a “cheese” smell to it, the new cheese does not come across as having much more flavor than the old style. This shop told me they are using all the new ingredients. But none of this matters in the grand scheme of things. The bottom of both pizzas were woefully underbaked. The slices themselves can best be described as ‘gooey’.
Cheryl | on December 26, 2009
Crap. My 6 year old loved the old Dominos pizza. He looked forward to us ordering it every week. This is as big of a mistake as the ‘new’ Coke was … Hurry up and get rid of this greasy new mess you have created.
Jeff | on December 26, 2009
Swing and a miss! Sitting down at the moment with my first New Coke… errr, Dominos, and the new sauce doesn’t bother me all that much, but the crust is terrible. I do not like Garlic, so this is quite disappointing. It’s fine until I reach the crust ( my favorite part of the pizza ), but then the Garlic kicks in and bleh!
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
If you are not a garlic fan, that’s no problem, when you talk to the store ask them for your pizza without garlic on the crust.
SJ Johnson | on December 26, 2009
We at first were so happy to have been able to order pizza on Christmas Eve, because our food had gone bad… but after the first bite, we weren’t so happy. Everyone had tummy aches, and the “best pizza in the whole world” (from my 11yo daughter) is now crap of a cardboard plate. Thanks a lot for ruining a good pizza. Won’t be getting anymore from you anymore.
SJ Johnson | on December 26, 2009
Oops… forgot to add that the “seasoning” was disgusting and I can’t believe for the first time no one in my family ate the crust or saved the left-overs for the next day. It went straight to the trash. No good.
Derrick | on December 26, 2009

The majority rules….this pizza sucks. It was so good before you changed it. I agree with my girlfriend, no more. This change was not good. We ordered dominos all the time and always had hot good pizza delivered with curtious delivery people. But now we will move to someone else, the pizza did not need garlic and the sauce did not need changed, so good by dominos….

Debi Borglit | on January 9, 2010
soo… your moving because of dominos? LMAO! oh god the drama and only the vocal majority maybe. Let me tell you MOST people did not like their pizza before, thus the change. They will do much better now wait and see.

Not a fan of the new pizza. We too have pizza night once a week in our house and always buy from Dominos. I don’t think we will continue on with Dominios in the future. Hope you guys go back to the old recipe.
W King | on December 26, 2009
Also, I forgot to mention that the sauce was terrible and there was enough of it on one pizza to cover at least 2 pizzas
Taylor | on December 26, 2009
The biggest problem with Dominos was never the ingredients–it has been the underbaked soft crust they’ve been undercooking for many years now. When they used to bake the crust long enough, it was good. All pizza except “Brooklyn style” should be baked until crispy on the outside. CRISPY! Not soft, soggy, and bland. Even PapaJ’s pizza, which is baked long enough and has a good bite to the crust, has an option for an “extra long bake” right on the website. Dominos, if you’re not going to cook the pizza long enough to be fully cooked with a decent crunch, like ALL of your competitors do, AT LEAST put the option on the web order form for an extra-long bake, like Papa’s does.
Sandra | on December 26, 2009
We just ordered the new pizza and it was nasty, and very cold. They didn’t put any extra cheese like we ordered. We are going to order from Pizza Hut from now on.
Wood | on December 26, 2009
WAY TO GO DOMINOS!!! It’s about time a pizza chain had the balls to add some delicious flavors to their pizza. I have no idea who these people are that say the new pizza does not taste better- they must either work for a competing chain or think that English food is the way to go… because this new pizza is flavorful, the garlic is unbelievable!!! We were worried the sauce would be too sweet, but it isn’t! There is a decent red pepper kick to it. Good job Dominos, we will be ordering from you from now on!
Russ | on December 26, 2009
Just tried the new pizza and were very disappointed. It was too garlicky and the sause lacked the flavor of the old standard. We’ll order from others now. Domino’s used to be a standard, now it’s not nearly as good. What’s the number for Pizza Hut?
Chris | on December 26, 2009
I think Domino’s finally got it right. We have ordered 4 times the last two weeks because it is greatly improved. Nice sauce flavor, cheesier cheese and the garlic..mmmm! I have been a Domino’s fan since 1982. The sauce back then was very peppery. Over the years it became bland and lacked spice. The garlic addition is very flavorful. My Domino’s said if I do not like the Garlic just ask for it to be left off and they will gladly oblige. So all you anti-garlic butter people, just ask for it to be removed and viola… you get what you want. BTW my favorite pizza is with the sliced Italian Sausage and crumbled sausage as toppings….awesome pizza!!!!
Cliff | on December 26, 2009
Ouch! I was going to try your new pizza resipe …. until I read through these comments. I was planning to read just a couple, but once I got started I couldn’t stop. Can you say “marketing mistake”? I knew you could. Not a fan of the old pizza, but if these comments are indicative of the general public, wow, just wow. This is the result of 2 years of working on a new recuipe and all that research?

DaviPu | on December 27, 2009
You almost did it Dominos. I ordered the new pizza. I liked the crust..heck I ATE the crust. The sauce had pep and flavor to it, BUT…..you went overboard on the SALT. Not good for the overall product and not good for those who must watch their sodium intake. What a shame. I was hopeful.
Imnotfat | on December 27, 2009
I’m looking forward to trying the new pizza just because there are so many haters on here. Studies show, however, that people who are dissatisfied with their product tend to speak out more than those who are satisfied. I am a bit skeptical about the sweeter sauce, but I’ll give it a ride. If I don’t like it, they’ll replace it with something else. Besides, if you want a real pizza, go to an Itallian restaurant not a fast food chain.
Jake | on December 27, 2009
Is this the Domino’s equivalent of Pizza Hut’s low-quality Pizza Mia pizzas?
Mike | on December 27, 2009
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I feel like the new pizza is much improved over the cardboard pizza of the past. The overall flavor is great and the pizza I received was well cooked and piping hot. The sauce is slightly too sweet but the pepper balances it out. I had never been a Dominos fan in the past but will be ordering from you guys more often in the future. Great new pizza! Thanks for making a real pizza instead of mass produced crap.

So sad. I previously ate Dominos Pizza all the time. I just ordered a pizza, not knowing I would be getting this ‘new’ pizza. I am a person who has really never met a pizza I don’t like…..UNTIL NOW. It is bad people. As many have commented, all you taste is garlic and butter. I can smell the garlic from across the kitchen. I have NEVER thrown away leftovers, until today. Great marketing plan Dominos…alienate millions of loyal Dominos customers by trying to lure in some new ones. Please advertise when you change it back to the way it was. Until then, no more Dominos for me.

SorrySorryJesseButBut | on January 8, 2010
Seriously? You’re bringing “mom and pop shops” into a discussion of large pizza-delivery chains? Totally different markets, totally different sales styles, it’s an irrelevant comment. I’m a fan of both Papa John’s and Domino’s, and I’m looking forward to trying the new Pizza. Whether I like it or not though, at least I’m well aware of who to compare it to. You might as well have said “I’m not a fan of Papa Johns.. It’s no where near the best pizza, I went to Rome once and the Pizza was much better”–well really? What a brilliant observation, Holmes!! If you’re going to compare pizzas, at least compare pizzas from related companies operating in the same markets.

finally tried it, been a lifetime dedicated Dominos customer. well, not anymore. crust, good improvement. cheese, also a small improvement. the sauce, disgusting. tastes like candy now, kinda like frozen pizza. they ruined a perfectly good pizza. Dominos isn’t the first corp to try to change thier bread and butter. and they’re not the first to loose customers. hopefully they wont loose enough to close up. costing more precious jobs in the name of corporate greed.

I was stunned by this ad campaign. You are essentially admitting that you’ve served bad pizza for years. New and improved-great idea. Admitting your product was bad is a horrible idea. Pizza hut-who has a much worse pizza-has a far better angle-show people enjoying their new product and being surprised by the quality. They don’t have a “sorry about our greasy garbage pizza” commercial. It would not be smart.

This is like Coke corp introducing “New Coke”. We go to Dominos because we like our sauce spicy not sweet, our crust traditional and fresh, and our cheese pure mozzarella. If you want to offer something new, fine but if your going to mimic papa johns and pizza hut then we will just go there.
Chuck | on December 27, 2009
I just watched the video, so what your saying is because loyal Dominos customers loved the pizza and loyal Pizza hut and papa johns customers hated it you changed it to make the people who don’t buy your pizza happy.
Abby | on December 27, 2009
I don’t really notice that much of a difference. Maybe my local store is not doing it right? The sauce did taste a bit zingier, but the crust and cheese seemed the same. There was no flavoring or anything on the crust! I’m confused.
Tom | on December 27, 2009
Just ordered my second new style Pizza. Loved the first one but they seemed to cut back a little to keep you whinny buts happy. Please go back to the original new pizza. I would have to say after seeing all the people that can not accept change or make their food desicions based on a 3 year old you probably should have both on the menu. Personally I love the new pizza. I was getting bored with the hand tossed. Pleas do not do what Coke did and completly go back to the old hand toss. This new pizza makes me choose you more often than I did before.

I had company from out of town and we ordered one tonight and we were all disapointed with your pizza , I would of rather ordered from Hungry Howies. I would never recomend your pizza.

If you want to keep your breath minty fresh you can call the store and ask for your next pizza without the garlic crust.
Lisa | on December 27, 2009
Here’s an idea for ya … Copy Extreme pizza, Redboys, Amici’s or Mary’s pizza and you’ll have a decent pizza. Except for all of your old customers that like the familiar but crummy, lifeless pizza. They’d rather you keep it the same.
Gab | on December 27, 2009
I wasn’t planning on writing anything, but after reading all the negative things I thought I should.
I was a fan of the old one, it was the only one I ordered, but I didn’t know they changed it.
I’ve had it twice since they changed it, the first one (a large pepperoni) was incredible, I didn’t know they changed it, but I actually thought the pizza was great.
The second time, I got the 5-5-5 deal (my favorite). I had a thin crust, a normal crust and a thick crust (deep-dish?), haha, the thin and thick were good, as always, didn’t notice much of a change, but the normal one had a bit too much garlic for my taste, but still great!
Over-all I think it’s an improvement, liked it before, still like it a lot!
That first one I had was the best pizza i’ve ever tasted, and the second one was great except for having a bit too much garlic, which I’m sure the stores will fix as they adjust!
I like the change, and will continue to order.
I guess you might want to offer the choice for the old one to some of those whiners (i have no idea how they don’t like the new one), but kudos.
JellyBellyS | on December 27, 2009
if “pizza chain of the year” & “#1 in customer satisfaction” was true they wouldn’t be changing the pizza! (someone’s lying!) – besides, if they are changing EVERYTHING, then they also need to change their name from Domino’s to something else, because Domino’s Pizza sucks!
Dude | on December 27, 2009
Dominos will always taste terrible , no matter how much they try to change it ,
Lisa | on December 28, 2009
By the way, congratulations on being honest about how much people hate your pizza. The truth will set you free. (Unless you’re like Madoff, in which case it will send you to prison for life.) The good news for Dominos is that you have no where to go but up because it would take pure genius to make a pizza that is worse than before and I’m pretty sure there’s no genius involved in your highfiven’ team. Just keep shakin’ that idea tree and see what falls out.
Jo | on December 28, 2009
We used to always call Domino’s pizza, “Domino’s death disk” and kid around that you could actuall fax a pizza to someone and it would taste about the same. Since moving to Nebraska in ‘94 the Domino’s doesn’t seem as bad but still not great (pssst… don’t ask my hubby who works for a franchise about Domino’s though, most of what he has to say about it is baaad though none of it is about the food). Haven’t notice any change in the pizza lately, it’s still the mediocre stuff it was in ‘94.
Bill | on December 28, 2009
It’s apparent that Domino’s is now trying to copy Cheesies pizza, which I might add that I don’t personally care for.
Mark | on December 28, 2009
Couldn’t be worse than the old pizza, so i’m confident I’ll be satisfied when I try it soon.
Aaron | on December 28, 2009
HEY EVERYONE! stop complaining about dominos pizza and go with papa johns. ITS WAY BETTER!
Aaron | on December 28, 2009
and LOL to the fact that people will not buy from domino’s because their little bratty children don’t like it any more. i personally work for an Arby’s and i CANNOT stand small children’s voices in the drive thru speaker screaming in my ear. i can’t even imagine the temper tantrum they’d throw over PIZZA. with so much non-discipline going on in the U.S. today. basically what im saying is: If you order pizza and your kid doesnt like it, tell them either eat the pizza, or dont eat anything. they wont complain when their stomachs are eating their backbones.
mike | on December 28, 2009
Dimino’s pizza has always been my favorite pizza. I love their crust , always have always will. Love , love their garlic butter dip. Also i am a fan of their new item “Bread Bowl Pasta” – 3 cheese/mac N- cheese. Also like their “Oven Baked Sandwiches”. And their “Bread sticks” . Oh their dessert “Domino’s Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake” yummy LOVE IT.

the last time I had a Dominoes Pizza was about 15 years ago. Now I want to run right out and get one. Why ? The Primary reason, Dominoe actually Listened to their customers and really did something. Not many big corporations do that these days. It is for this fact alone I am going to try Dominoes Pizza ! You listened and reacted in a positive way to your customers ! Thanks for that Dominoes ! I hope this will set an example for other companies to follow .

Pete | on December 28, 2009
Haven’t tried the new pizza yet. But the old pizza was disgusting. The old crust was coated with CORNMEAL. Nasty!! How in the world do people eat it like that?? Pizza is my favorite food and dominos was definitely the worst out of the many options we have here. Dominos could be onto something here. If it’s good, it will be our late night/early morning go-to 4th meal and possibly sunday lunch. Review to come later today.
S.Kader | on December 28, 2009
What is it with you guys? It’s Pizza not bisquits and gravy. Sugar and butter have nothing to do with pizza. You wasted millions on R&D and P.R for what? Fire your midwestern corn fed chefs and hire people from the East coast who can differentiate the difference between olive oil and butter. Didn’t you learn anything from Coca Cola and their New Coke fiasco?
Dario | on December 28, 2009
Crust is great. Sauce is a bit too sweet, however.

OjiChef | on December 28, 2009
Hey guys, pro chef here, sauce can be “sweeter” without having more sugar in it. There are many things one can do to a sauce to brighten it up including using different tomatoes to using unexpected ingredients such as a finely ground ginger. Also, don’t say you’ll have to look elsewhere for pizza until you’ve tried it.
Andrew | on December 28, 2009

Well, my mouth is watering, and I can’t wait to order it, so I’ll say one thing: they have an effective ad campaign! I personally didn’t mind Domino’s pizza before the change, but I think I’ll like it even more now.
Pandy Bear | on December 28, 2009
The new pizza shouldn’t automatically come with a buttered or garlic crust. It should be optional. If you want to give the crust more flavor you have to change the dough not just paint something on the crust to mask or add to the flavoring. Common sense tells you that. The red pepper sauce sound interesting to me. And the fresh grated cheese they showed them grate up on the video. If you ask me you should do what Jet’s do. They are Awesome and they are the best. Their turbo crust is awesome. Butter, cheese and garlic, on request!
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
You can get your pizza without the garlic crust, just ask the store when you call to place your next order.
So you couldn’t figure out that your pizza was carappy on your own? I doubt it. Sounds like you were trying to cut corners by being cheap and it caught up with you. Pizza ia not Rocket science. The best pizza is usually found at a good neigborhood Italian restaurant not some mega bucks franchise. Sure it’s goona cost a little mor but you get what you pay for.

We were one of those people who would not order from Dominos becaused of a lousy pizza. We tried one a couple weeks ago for the first time. Love the crust and the sauce. Keep with the recipes, cheese is also goos but never seems to be enough. We reordered one christmas eve. Was our second one, just as good. You have brought back a new customer! Thanks and keep going forward.
Kim | on December 28, 2009
Go back to the original pizza. If you want , add this one as a extra choice. But Dominos is the only pizza my kids will eat, and thankfully we were able to get it anywhere…New York to Hawaii, now they refuse to eat pizza at all. I don’t know who told you this “change was good” but I have a feeling it was someone from your compitition. Please go back to the original pizza.
Patrick | on December 28, 2009
Haven’t tired the new pizze yet, but not surprised about the comments since most of these are from people that actually like the original crap. I boycotted Dominos pizza a long time ago. Sandwiches are good though. I am looking forward to trying the new pizza. It has to be better because it can’t get worse. Unlike many parts of the country we have a lot of great local pizza shops; compeition is tough.

I LOVE THE NEW PIZZA! The improvements were much needed. My kids will eat the crust now. They love it. Thank you for the change.
david | on December 28, 2009
just watched the video…..how come pizza dough makers aren’t wearing plastic gloves; especially, in this era of Swine Flu??????? most employees are hourly workers, right? do they have the flu? are they sneezing into their hands????? also, film shows zillions of workers trying to come up with best sauce, dough and cheese….in north jersey, all it takes is one pizza owner (usually, Italian) to make his dough, make his sauce and use quality cheese from the distributor….that’s why pizzeria pizza is so good….not brain science!!!!!!!!!
Gotta wait till I try it. But I do have to say I really loved Domino’s pizza before (especially the thin crust pizza) and hope that this crust I will like too.
Looks good, looks amazing, just hope they keep a little of the old while introducing the new. Best of both worlds.
Adrian | on December 28, 2009
was this drama for real? you changed the recipe most of us have loved for years for one group of whiny fat women? i personally never thought there was anything wrong with the crust or other flavors. if there is a reason I bought less of your pizza it was pricing. kept going up. if anything, find ways to lower prices. don’t make the same mistake coca-cola made when they tried to force a new flavor on their “loyal fans”
“Congrats,” Dominos — you just converted us from being lifelong Dominos customers, to a family who will now, instead, wait an extra 15 minutes to get our pizza from PapaJohn’s. We all hate the nasty, garlicky aftertaste. BLEEAAAHHHHGGHHHHH!!!!
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
If you don’t like the garlic, we’ll make your pizza without it, just call the store and let them know that you’d like your pizza without the garlic crust.
Matt Hunt | on January 31, 2010
I love the garlic crust, the sauce just plain sucks, and the cheese is meh, im a huge pizza person, i dont like pizza hut anymore since they changed sauces, the only time i order from them is when they have the big square pizzaenormous or whatever its called. Papa johns is meh their sauce is nice but cheese and crust suck. The only thing i like from the new pizza is the crust, because i like breadsticks so lol.
I Can Fly Now | on December 28, 2009
The “Critics” in the video are hilarious, where does one get these people for a commercial. Watching that commercial made me feel like i was a real live person, I no longer cared how much of a loser I am, because someone is even more so. In relevant news the new pizza gave me the ability to fly, yes, literally. Prior to eating the new pizza I was a landbased animal, but now its so improved I can leave the earths surface under my own power. Suprising? No I dont think so, the new pizza is that improved. Its not like the improved the pizza, the improved man.
Claire | on December 28, 2009
No Longer a fan. Liked old recipe…. Due to change – going elsewhere for delivered pizza.
Dan | on December 28, 2009
I haven’t tried the new pizza yet, but I hated the old pizza. It tasted too fake in my opinion. I see a lot of people liked the old stuff better than the new stuff, probably because they are so used to tasting/eating the old stuff that they’ve become immune to what most would consider to be a “Fake” tasting pizza. In my opinion you can combat this by offering both types of pizza from now on. It won’t cost any more money to provide both options on the menu, kinda like providing different types of crust (Thin, Deep, Regular) just provide two different styles as well (Dominos new recipe, or Dominos old recipe) Problem solved, everyone is happy.
larry | on December 28, 2009
love the new pizza though i agree that it’s a little too greasy. maybe just brushing the crust edges with garlic butter. either way a great pizza, always will love dominoes no matter how many haters there are. go domonoes !

Chris | on December 28, 2009
I had this last week. I really liked the new stuff. Sure, I really liked the old stuff too, but now it is something different. Where I live we don’t have the places like they do in NY or Chicago where you can get a killer pizza from a local jouint so it is like Dominos is the new guy in town that brought us something different to eat for a change. I don’t get why everyone is complaining about this. I know the saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it fits here, but this is a fix that just had to be done to give the consumer something different for a change. I think they should offer both crusts and both sauces so that you have a choice.
Steve | on December 28, 2009
Im planning on trying the new pizza tonight. I actually used to like the old 80s pizza, but we’ll see about this change.
John of Festus | on December 28, 2009
Well it looks like the people who were satisfied with the old Domino’s pizza are the same ones who still flock to McDonald’s for bland and boring food. The new formula (recipe) for Domino’s pizza is fantastic! I’ve been a fan for a very long time and the new crust and sauce are just outstanding and gives the pizza some sophistication and appeals to the more discerning palate. Hey man I LOVE the new pizza!
I thought the pizza was “spoiled” and shouldn’t be eaten. Then I saw the words on the box. After 50 years of “success” they had re-designed a good thing and made it bad! My complaints through the Domino’s WEB site received a quick reply “everyone tested like the new 50-year design better.” I felt that it tasted like what I received was actuall 50 years old! I was told that the new garlic could be left off the crust and there are a choice of 3 sauces. But the original is NOT a choice. Now to find a new pizza supplier that makes GOOD pizzas!
robin | on December 28, 2009
The sause is good, but that crust is way too much tasted that garlig forHOURS!
Domino’s Pizza | on January 8, 2010
If the butter, garlic crust is too strong for your tastes, but you still want a hint of flavor, ask the store to go easy on the crust seasoning. You can also ask the store to make the crust with no garlic at all.
Eddie | on December 28, 2009
Looks great. There’s a Dominos pretty much three miles in any direction from my house and I always ignore it because it couldn’t compete, not even with L.C. (gross) but now the new pizza looks very good and I’m going to try it this week. And David, don’t be paranoid.
Paratia | on December 28, 2009
Thanks for the announcement! Because of a garlic allergy, I was sent to the hospital from one bite of this! After 13 years of Domino’s they changed without telling anyone. You’ll hear from my attorney soon!

The new sauce taste nasty, like Pizza Hut’s! This is not a good Pizza! Bring the old pizza back!
Bill | on December 28, 2009
I agree that you should be commended on having the balls to make this awesome change, it ROCKS!!!! The people who don’t like your new pizza need to eat out at a nursing home if they like bland tasteless crap to eat. Italian food,” true Italian food” is flavorful and zesty using GARLIC, and lots of it people!! Domino’s has done a very good thing so stop whining about it and give it a chance. If any corporate people are reading this bring back the tasteless pizza as an option for the bland cardboard eaters, then everyone will be happy!!
Robyn | on December 28, 2009
Well, what else can you do when your has been crap for years and everybody in the world knows it. Some honesty, what an inspired and very effective marketing campaign. Move me out of the category of “Would never try it again in a million years.” to “Would never try it again in a thousand years.” That’s a huge win for a single four minute commercial.
ars | on December 28, 2009
We did not like it at all. My daughter is very disappointed with this new pizza. She really liked the old recipe. We now will search for a different restaurant to order our pizza from. Big mistake!
Tom | on December 28, 2009
I will be ordering the new Pizza tonight. I have been avoiding Domino’s for years because of it’s bland lack-luster flavor and texture. To me, just about anything would be an improvement. I’m excited about it, and as far as I’m concerned, there can’t be to much garlic.
Marie | on December 28, 2009
I haven’t eaten Domino’s since 1998 when I lived in NJ. The crust was the BIGGEST turn-off. Bland, tasteless, cardboard-like. It was gross. When I moved to CA, it was Pizza Hut and Papa John’s (though Papa John’s was at the forefront of our pizza calls!). I was shocked and amazed (from viewing the video) that the ‘chefs’ were so excited about using REAL cheese, oregano and garlic! I agree with a previous posting: there IS a difference btwn butter and OLIVE OIL. Pizza = Italian. Italian = olive oil, cheese, fresh tomatoes & herbs! I want to give the new pizza a shot but I’m afraid it’ll be a waste of $ and food to have to throw it away and then clean the grease spots up afterwards. BTW, the ONLY pizza place we order from in Las Vegas is Nikki Lee’s on E Sunset Blvd. The best pizza I’ve had since leaving the East Coast!
Ashley | on December 28, 2009
We didn’t know that things had changed before we ordered from our local Domino’s the last time. We really weren’t paying attention as we ate, but then we got to the crust. I never eat the crust of pizza, except for a competitors stuffed crust style. Well I got there and it was just amazing. I eat the crust on this pizza, that is how good it is. Domino’s is one of two pizza places that will deliver to my home, and we will be ordering from Domino’s much more now.
a mom | on December 28, 2009
Maybe Dominos should have thought out the crust a little better. Greasy, unfortunately, is almost a given for pizza- but soggy is just too much! Maybe testing in a few different markets before making a nationwide change would have been smart.
Charlotte | on December 28, 2009
We ordered Domino’s last week, not knowing about the recipe change. Our pizza was awful. The crust tasted like cardboard, there was very little sauce on it, and hardly any cheese and toppings. The garlic made it greasy, also. I’ll never order it again.
elia | on December 28, 2009
the pizza is delicious. We loved it
Zack | on December 28, 2009
Ordered a large one topping… crust was decent, but OMG, where was the cheese? I had to add a bunch of cheese from my fridge, then microwave it… i could honestly see the dough in spots from the top
If I wanted greasy crust I would have ordered pizzahut. You’ve already got lots of crust options why not just slide this new one in with the rest of them and give us our old crust back? When people are complinaing about the tatse of their dominos pizza look into what the local store is doing. While you do a lot to ensure consistency anyone can tell you how they like the pizza from the good dominos better than the bad dominos.
a stepdad | on December 28, 2009
my local store changed to new pizza several weeks ago. I new as soon as i tasted it that this was not my old domino’s pizza it was so much better. We have ordered like 5 times since the change. we ordered yesterday and while we waited for it to come my daughter saw the new commercial it came she took one bite and said she didn’t like it they needed to change back. i explained to her it was 5th time she had it. She decided she liked it as much as last weeks and decided she just must not like change.

katie | on December 28, 2009
Sorry, but the original was much better! I tried the new pizza and didn’t care for it at all. I didn’t think the sauce was sweeter? It was spicy! My father orded the pizza when we were having a get together and didn’t even know the pizza changed until after he got it because no one said anything. He wont eat it now because of the garlic crust and my mother wont eat it either because of the spicy sauce. I probably wont again. I’d rather appeal to a larger group of people instead of just the people that were complaining before. The pizza was great before and I loved it! I’ll have you note, a LOT of people don’t like spicy things or garlic including my family and a lot of people I know. Sooo I don’t know but I think you might lose some business.
Bernice | on December 28, 2009
Awesome changes! Loved, loved, LOVED the crust! Now it’s not a burnt bubble anymore, it’s actually seasoned and you can eat it and enjoy it! The cheese was fantastic… and when we asked for double, it actually looked like we GOT double! Amazing pizza…. you hit it on the head, now don’t change back!
CHIP | on December 28, 2009
Very disappointing. I just tried two mediums special offer. Made my pies sausage/mushroom and pepperoni/mushroom. Both soggy and still no match for Pizza Hut.
As a college kid in the seventies, I lived on Dominos. But switched to Pizza Hut once I discovered how pale Dominos tasted by comparison. Saw the advert on TV for the recipe makeover and figured I’d give it a try for old times’ sake. Phoned the New Rochelle store and dropped by for a pickup. So no way to blame the outcome on delivery. Just a poor show all around.
You can definitely smell the garlic. But you can’t taste it. And the cheese just isn’t “cheesy”. IMO too much olive oil. Too much reliance upon olive oil to provide flavor.
The pepperoni topping was “good”, though not great. The sausage topping was utterly undetectable to the palate a huge letdown. Back to Pizza Hut for me, which is a shame. P/H won’t deliver. Yet, it’s worth the drive to bring home a meal that you can really sink your teeth into.
kk | on December 28, 2009
I didn’t taste it yet but I’m excited. To all those people who are hating on the new recipe, You are not ready for change. The old Dominoes was the bland, fake cheese, and tastless crust it used to be. My friends tasted it and they gave me the thumbs up. My pizza comes from pizza hut first, but now ill give dominoes one more chance. Wish me luck!
Kimberly | on December 28, 2009
I look forward to trying the pizza, but I am a little concerned. i don’t think I will enjoy the sauce being “sweeter” as that is not the way FRESH real tomato sauce should taste in my opinion. Also my husband will not be able to have it AT ALL since you added red peppers to the sauce. He is among a huge group of people who unfortunately have IBS and CANNOT eat peppers unless he wants to be really sick. I might order one for myself, but as my husband is the real (italian) pizza lover in our family I’m afraid we will be continue getting our pizza at Papa Murphys so that he can eat it. I enjoy adding red pepper to my own slices of pizza, I don’t think it was wise to put it in the sauce.
Darby Edwards | on December 28, 2009
I like it a lot better. The crust and sauce have more flavor. I would barely ever eat it before.
Brendan | on December 28, 2009
I am absolutely someone who formerly abhorred Dominos pizza, only considering getting it when… well, let’s say inhibitions weren’t what they usually were. However, I am really a fan of the improvements you guys have made. It tastes like something that everyone on the socioeconomic spectrum can enjoy, where before I just had the feeling that you were catering to the lower end. The garlic was a bold move, and I could foresee that it would turn some people off, which we can see that it did here. But I’m a fan.

The best pizza restaurants don’t have to deliver. People will come to them gladly.
Aree | on December 28, 2009
I have been reading a lot of the comments about the new pizza. Some day there is too much sauce, others not enough. Some say that the crust is too greasy, others that it is too salty, still more that think it is too garlicy. The only domino’s in my area went out of business over the summer so I won’t be able to try it for a while, but here is my two bits about the change:
A lot of people say that they liked the old pizza better, but Domino’s would have never made this change unless they thought the security of their company was in jeopardy. If they could have survived on their old sales they wouldn’t have risked everything in this move. As for those people who demand the old pizza option, that isn’t how Domino’s does business. The whole reason why Domino’s pizza is fast and efficient is because of it’s simplified menu–think In-N-Out, basic and fast. This new pizza is the result of lots of research and trials in the kitchen and was road tested by Domino’s long before it went to the consumer. So, is the problem the new recipe or is the problem in execution? Why do people have so many different opinions (often contrasting ones) about the pizza? Because there is no standardization in the delivery of the product. Domino’s needs to work on making sure that every franchise is following the correct steps to produce a high-quality, correctly-executed product. If you tried Domino’s new product and hated it, perhaps don’t swear off Domino’s entirely. Give the company a couple of weeks, maybe a month, to work on perfecting the execution of the product and give it another chance. Until I get to taste the new pizza, I’ll be optimistic about it. I can’t help but wonder, if they hadn’t told anyone about the change, how many of the millions of Domino’s customers would have actually noticed a difference?
Jacob | on January 8, 2010
I disagree with your diagnosis of Domino’s problem as being an execution problem. I think that it is a problem with people not ordering thier pizza the way they want it.
If you don’t like a lot of sauce order less…
if you want more sauce order more…
If you don’t like the garlic butter ask for it to be left off…
Folks stop for a second and remember>>> IT IS PIZZA! Not a major purchase, at least for my budget, and when has a group of people ever agreeed on pizza?
For the record, my family and I love it and will be ordering it again very soon.
Janna | on December 28, 2009
We had the new pizza for lunch. IT WAS FANTASTIC! We always order light sauce (I couldn’t stand the old sauce and there was always too much of it) but even with less sauce, I could still taste the difference. As for the garlic, we are a garlic loving family so we love the new crust. Thank you, Domino’s!
Billy | on December 28, 2009
The garlic crust was the best part! This is much improved. People need to settle down with these long rants on here. It’s pizza, it’s better and it’s delicious.
Natalie | on December 28, 2009
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT! GOOD JOB FOR MAKING THE CHANGE! BRAVO!
Amanda | on December 28, 2009
Over the years, we’ve ordered a LOT of pizza from Domino’s. We weren’t informed of this drastic recipe change before ordering the last time, and there was so much garlic in the crust that it made two family members sick. And the smell really did stink up the entire kitchen. We will NOT be ordering from Domino’s Pizza ever again, and as a lifelong customer, it kinda makes me sad to say it.
Charissa | on December 28, 2009
Domino’s used to be our favorite pizza. Not anymore!! I dont like Garlic, neither does everybody. My husband had it in my truck for 5 mins to bring home and my truck smelled for days!! My husband loves pizza and isnt picky about it, but he said we would never order that …. again! You lost a customer.
Kate | on December 28, 2009
Just for the ill-informed…there is no SUGAR in this pizza sauce. Tomatoes (in case you didn’t realize) are naturally sweet and depending on whether or not they use more puree or not, the sauce will be sweeter. So for you diabetics out there, chill the heck out. If you can eat tomatoes on a regular basis then you can eat tomato sauce. You need to be more concerned about the carbs from the crust, in which case, you shouldn’t be ordering pizza in the first place.
diana | on December 28, 2009
I found the crust too greasy and the crust was tough. I miss the old old dominoes–from about 10 years ago–that was the best. Remember, some people like to taste sauce too!
pizza man | on December 28, 2009
The new crust is absolutely disgusting! The entire bottom of the box was soaked with grease that came from the crust. Not only was the crsut far too greasy, but the flavor was the same as fake, movie popcorn butter. Why would anyone want that on a pizza?
Tom | on December 28, 2009
To be perfectly clear, the new cheese, we’ve been using for at least 1-2 months, and the new sauce, also 3-5 weeks before this even started. For those of you saying “I hate the new Pizza” you’re just not accepting of change and good things to happen.
The new garlic oil crust is a fantastic addition to our pizza’s. With out it, it’d still be “cardboard.” It is not greasy, its a mixture of ingredients that are soaked in by the crust, to get it a more flavorful taste.
I had never been a Domino’s fan before this, and now, its the only quick-service pizza I’ll eat.
Adam | on December 28, 2009
Come on people…. Garlic is huge in italian cooking! Look at papa johns… they have garlic sause…. come on people! I have not tried the pizza yet but I will… I normally order from papa johns but will give Domino’s another try. If we all liked the same thing…. we would only eat at one place….. the changes were msde for the better I am guessing…. People want fresh tasting pizza….If you do not like it… eat at another pizzaria. Domino’s will only suffer again if they did not get it right! Enjoy
Patty | on January 18, 2010
You said it – “Look at papa johns… they have garlic sause” – We love their garlic sauce and WE CAN CHOOSE whether to add it or not, and how much. There is no choice with this new pizza. It has loads of garlic and butter already added. Other than trying to wipe some off, you’re stuck with it.
Matt | on December 28, 2009
I seen on the New’s your changing your pizza tell you the truth I was not that big of a fan of your pizza I would order it mostly while I was drinking sorry.
Today My girlfriend and I ordered a pizza and the girl didn’t want to put the garlic on the crust we said make it the way it is suppose to be! And wow what a perfect change real good pizza I myself run a Pizza place and I know pizza and this was very good! now I can eat it sober!

PLEASE PLEASE bring back the old pizza. We ordered it for a party, and none of us including 5 Seventh graders ate it, because it was so greasy and chocked full of garlic. Yuck! Dominos has always been our “go to” for pizza, and now we will not order it again.
john squire | on December 28, 2009
don’t fall prey to good advirtisement campaigns. If dominos gets you to buy a pizza because of this campaign then they have done their job. But I think the best ‘dominos turnaround’ would be to burn the place to the ground. I got cinnastix a month a go in college and found that they had been spat on, you might ask why? becuase i caught the friggin driver in the backseat of the car hucking back a few nice placed lugeys on my desert. If you want to help the american economy, go to independent pizza delivery companys guys

It has not been unusual for my wife and I to order from Domino’s once a week. Tonight was my last night of ordering Domino’s pizza. I took two bites of the “New” pizza and threw the rest away. How terribly disappointing to see such a disaster made of what was once a great pizza.
AJ | on December 28, 2009
I’m curious to try the new thing personally, but I’m not willing to tolerate the abominable service received by the franchise in my town…may try it if I go somewhere else to visit friends.
catherine | on December 28, 2009
they should offer the original recipe as well as the new, that way you keep the old customers and bring in the new. the new recipe could use a few subtle improvements as any new recipe needs…less grease on the crust, etc…. i’m sure it depends on the store and employees as well.
I liked the new recipe, as did my family. I had intended to order without the knowledge of the change. I must admit I started ordering the deep dish because I felt the hand tossed did have a cardboard quality to it. Once I read they revamped the whole pizza, I ordered the hand tossed. I was very satisfied! Everything tastes great. I do agree they should have the option for the old one if someone wants it, because the old pizza was pretty good (minus the crust). I will order more often. However, if they really want more business in this bad economy they should lower their prices.

To those of you concerned about a “sweeter” sauce and diabetes… a “sweeter” sauce does not necessarily indicate that sugar has been added, or that sugar is even a direct cause to obesity. The number of grams of total carbohydrates listed on a food label includes all forms of “sugar” including fiber, cane sugar, fruit sugar, and flour, grains, etc. Domino’s pizza offers nutrition facts for all of its products online, including total grams of carbohydrate. The total grams of carbohydrate in conjunction with total calories and grams of fat included in the nutrition facts or food label is your primary source of information for calorie or carbohydrate counting. A sauce can be “sweeter” by concentrating the tomato paste in the recipe, or adding a blend of natural fruit and vegetable blends to the sauce. Tomatoes are naturally high in fructose, or “fruit sugar”. As an added piece of information, if you completely avoid carbohydrate or sugar, your body has the ability to make “sugar” for energy from protein and fat at a cellular level. All of these nutrients, carbodyrate (in the form of sugar, fiber, wheat, etc), fat, and protein play a vital role in your nutrition and metabolism, and all can and should be consumed in moderation, watching portion size and food labels. — Christina Tygett, Registered Dietitian

rick | on December 28, 2009
The new pizza is awfull. Forget the crust critiques. It just tastes bad. The benefit of pizza is you start with something plain, then add what you want to it.
My recommendaion: FIRE Russell Weiner, Domino’s Chief Marketing Officer. Didn’t he ever hear about New Coke? He spent 2 years ruining the brand?!?!?
You gotta love this, from their press release:
“It’s a completely new pizza reinvented from the crust up, and we are proud of it. To us, it’s as big as McDonald’s changing the Big Mac, or Burger King reinventing the Whopper. We spent the last 18 months reinventing the brand in anticipation of our 50th anniversary.” And McD and BK haven’t changed, because, why? Coke did, and how did that go for them?
Matt | on December 28, 2009
The new pizza is awful. The crust is vile. I agree with Catherine a few posts above mine, at least offer the original recipe along with this crap and give the customer a CHOICE. otherwise, you leave me no choice but to go elsewhere. there’s pizza on every corner around here. your loss.
Brian | on December 28, 2009
I’m gonna give it a go but I am skeptical. As far as I am concerned, all Domino’s has to do is deliver the pizza that I was able to buy from them in 1985. It was incredible and there was nothing like it on the market. That, coupled with the ability to get ice cold fountain Cokes delivered with the pizza made Domino’s miles beyond everyone else in the marketplace. They got too big and the shortcuts began. Hopefully this is really a return to the company that started the pizza delivery revolution!!!!
nicole | on December 28, 2009
for what it was worth, i reallllllyyly liked the old domino’s pizza!!!!

Gee, guys. That’s a strange product rollout. I’ve never knew your old product sucked like you say in your video. Of course, I’ve never had your pizza. There isn’t a Dominoes in my whole county. Seems a very strange product-rollout strategy.

Me and my girls have eaten Domino’s pizza since the store was put in here in Durant, Okla. I have ordered at least 1 pizza a week for a family pizza night and for years I’ve ordered multiple pizza’s to accomodate a group of over 200 young people as their youth pastor. Me and my girls just ate one of your “new and improved” pizza’s and I’m sorry to say, “I will not be ordering any of your pizza ever again!!!!” It absolutely was the greatest dissapointment I have experienced with Domino’s Pizza. It tasted horrible and the after taste is even worse than the for taste!!! For the life of me I cannot understand why after 50 years of success a company would change what made them such a success!!!!

If you want to know what good chain-pizza is, Donato’s Pizza is exploding in the midwest because their recipe is absolutely amazing, and they don’t make something taste “better” by coating it with grease and fat… their recipe is better than most mom&pop shops, let alone miles better than any other chain.

WHY, WILL SOMEONE TELL, ME WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE SWEET OR SWEETER? Personally, I am sick to death that almost everything we eat that we don’t prepare ourselves from scratch, seems to be sweet. I hope this is the kiss of death: This reminds ms of New Coke, a massive FAILURE. Even Coke admitted it. Why mess with something that is working?

DRUMMERBOY | on December 28, 2009
doesn’t matter that the recipe is different. domino’s and all the other “quick” pizzia places need to get back to using a real oven like shakeys. the conveyor belt oven system they use is not a good system. any high school dummy kid can cook a pizza like that. BRING BACK A REAL OVEN TO ALL PIZZA PLACES

we tried the new pizza last night and domino’s is the only pizza we ordered for the last 15 years. but not any more the new pizza tast like something you get at 7-11
Jason | on December 28, 2009
I’ve had Domino’s only three or four times in twenty-five years, spaced about 7-8 years apart, and only because other people ordered it. It’s not even on my radar for pizza places, it was so totally unremarkable. But I’ll probabaly try your new pizza, if you really did reinvent it from scratch. You really did need to do this. Hope you came up with a winner…guess I’ll be the judge of that (along with millions of others, heh).

I can not believe you have done this. I smelled the pizza before it left the delivery car. If I can’t get it the old way I will not ever order again. Full of salt and garlic… gross. Can you say “Classic Coke” screw up! Bad Bad Bad pizza.
Jan Chilton | on December 28, 2009
Just tried the new pizza. Our Longs, SC Dominos has a super nice guy named Sean that is a driver and answers the phone some. I mentioned some of these comments and he made mine with very LIGHT butter garlic crust. It was perfect, not greasy, and really added to the flavor. I have never really cared for Dominos, but this new sauce is tangier, and the slight provolone taste to the cheese adds to it too. I did not taste anything “sweet” in the sauce…just a bit better tang.
Find the best employee like I did in Sean, and you can get your special preferences worked out. I feel lucky to have him! And the new pizza is 4 thumbs up!
Aree | on December 28, 2009
Fan of Real Ingredients is also conveniently using this space to endorse Donato’s.
Tom | on December 28, 2009
Oh man, people who continue to hate fake pizza.
Dominos isnt pizza. its overprocessed food like matter shaped to look like a pizza. Anyone from the north east knows that if you want REAL pizza, you go to a local pizza shop. Dominos is more like ragu on bread with half a container of garlic salt poured on the crust.
Once i had local pizza shop pizza, there was no going back to commisary stored over-yeasted fake pizza.
David | on December 28, 2009
Why not just go back to the OLD Recipe From the 80’s!?!?!?!? that was GREAT pizza, Sauce, Toppings. And yes keep thereal cheese. I will never order From Domnio’s again Even the subs have gone to crap when you changed the bread. The cheese still taste’s like it still comes out from a freezer like how the old cheese was, I am disapointed and the flavor Crust should be an option. I had seen an advertisement on the internet that you were also thinking about bringing back the noid again, That’s great because as the commercials went advoid the noid and I will be doing as it says. I will beadvoiding Domino’s

I have not had Domino’s in 15 years. They are across the street from me but their service always sucked. However, I have noticed, on my drive home with my huge pizzeria pizza, that over the years folks are walking out of Dominos with smaller and smaller boxes! They are teeny! I feel sorry for them! Would it take 4 large to feed a family of 6?
Dan | on December 29, 2009
Haven’t tried the new pizza yet, but why are so many people complaining about the garlic crust? This is something they apply to the pizza before they cook it. Is it so hard to tell the person over the phone to not add the garlic sauce to the crust?
I’m confused? DO domino’s employee’s say “No” if you don’t want the crust brushed with Garlic? Personally I like garlic crust myself. However just say you don’t want garlic on the crust people.
dave berger | on December 29, 2009
I’m not a garlic fan. I picked up 2 pizzas tonight and didn’t know about the change until I got home and read the box. My opinion: still tasted a lot like a Dominos Pizza, a bit more peppery (fine); it was edible, but I ***hate*** the after-taste of the garlic! There are many better pizza places near me…this will move Dominos down near the bottom of the list. I’d be concerned that even if I ordered a crust without garlic…the pizza-maker would forget and I’d end up getting garlic anyway.
It’s garlic butter they spred on the crust, and yes, they are quite happy to leave it off, do extra, or do light. They will try to make the crust a bit thinner or thicker. Extra sauce or less, extra cheese or less. They are like Burger King…it’s “Have it Your Way”. And the large pizzas are still just as large. I can’t even eat half of a medium by myself. Plus, if you sign up with their email, they send you discount coupons constantly.
Maureen | on January 10, 2010
Have it your way? I once ordered my pizza online with light sauce as my daughter is not a huge sauce fan. Our pizza arrived with NO SAUCE at all!
Jeff Martin | on December 29, 2009
I love spicy, well the new sauce is SPI-CEEEE and my 7 yr-old son, who DOES NOT LIKE SPICY he really LIKED the sauce…it was pretty interesting to say the least…the only mistake they made was I was supposed to get EXTRA EXTRA PEPPERONI with one of my pizzas as my TWO toppings but they left off one of the EXTRAS so it was just a pizza with 7 large pieces of pepperoni but hey what do you expect for six bucks, so no I didn’t complain the pizza guy’s gotta make a living right?
rogo in philly | on December 29, 2009
You poor sad folks who don’t have a real local pizza place in their neighborhood and have to deal with this crap. Pizza and sandwiches should not be made by food chemists in an industrial kitchen, it should be done by artisans and entrepreneurs in the back of the shop, with fresh dough daily and proprietary ingredients. Support your local shops, not these bland chains that put more into the marketing (to kids and teens, who are brought up to think that this actually might be the standard) than into the product.

So, what I’m reading is people who have NOT eaten from here for a while like it. Loyal customers do not. Also several people have near died from the change due to allergies that Domino’s failed to mention. I’m smelling “New Coke” Fiasco. Give it 3 months, they’ll go back to normal.

Boy am I glad I am not the only one hating the new pizza.
We order at least once or twice a month and get 2 pizzas at a time. We ordered last week and to us they were unpalatable. My wife quit eating it after 3 or 4 bites to sweet and then the pepper hit her overwhelming heartburn in sued.
Wrote the Corporate Headquarters and they said the new Pizza was a overwhelming hit in research and said it’s what America wants.
Then they said you could order it with any of 3 sauces white, Marinara and BarQ. sauce.
To bad garlic white sauce with pepperoni and green olives dont mix the only pizza my wife likes would be ruined. Oh Ya they already ruined it by changing the sauce. Marinara is ok on pasta but pizza? and BarQ heaven forbid on pizza what was marketing at dominoes thinking.
Well they know how I stand and I will not order from them again.
Used to love dominoes, this new stuff, made me physically ill, but don’t feel bad dominoes, Papa Johns has the same effect, puke pizza, gotta find somewhere else to order from.
Brad Baker | on December 29, 2009
I love the new sauce and how bold it is. This was a definite risk, but it paid off; it tastes more like a mom and pop homemade pizza sauce than something a large producer would make. The cheese is also very, very good. I like the crust too, but I always liked it.
Big ups to Dominos for being daring and taking a risk. It has paid off big time IMO.
Joel | on December 29, 2009
I tried the new pizza last night. I liked it. The texture of the crust reminds me of the crust Domino’s uses for their Bronx pizza and the garlic, butter crust is a nice touch. The sauce (even though it’s described as being “sweeter”) is not sweet, but more spicy, which I like as well. All in all, it gets a thumbs up from me.
With that said, a lot of people simply hate change. This is going to ruffle some feathers of the diehard Domino’s fans. Also, I anticipate the workers at Domino’s having a hard time perfecting the execution of an all new pizza…I bet a lot of those pizzas going out the first few weeks are going to be mistakes.
Wayne | on December 29, 2009
The old pizza was much better. Why change a good thing?? The new sauce is awful. It is like the ‘NEW COKE’ calamity all over again. Go back to the old way of making good pizza.

Mike | on December 29, 2009
Folks, our only hope is that Dominos management reviews the case study of the NEW COKE catastrophy. I have been a die hard Dominos fan for over 25 years and that was just obliterated tonight by the surprise in my pizza box tonight. This stuff is not what I seek when I go to Dominos. I hate Garlic with a passion. The smell of the old Dominos on the truck seat next to me on my way home from work is one of those foundations of life like mom’s spaghetti. Truly a joy and one of those comforts of life that has been programmed in since child hood. You cant explain it, but you know when you have it. The new stuff is a no go for me. Dominos, you are off my speed dial.
Michele | on December 29, 2009

My wife and I ordered a Dominos pizza a few nights ago, not knowing the recipe had changed. What a disappointment. The pizza was horrible! The crust is the worst part! You would think that companies would have learned their lesson when Coke tried to change. Corporate idiots!!!! My only hope is they will change back to the last recipe based on the number of unhappy loyal customers that have posted here. Until then, we won’t be ordering Dominos either.

The new pizza sucks!!! Why would you just up and take away the old pizza all together. Why not allow customers to choose the pizza that they like. Domino’s was my favorite pizza chain, but I won’t be ordering again until the old pizza comes back.

The pizza is a definite improvement on the old, but still not as good as competitors’ offerings. I would encourage you to get back to work. It’s better, but not good enough.

I have been a loyal dominos fan my whole life. I even named an email and an AIM screename after dominos. I ate a pizza the other day not knowing about the change and couldn’t even get halfway through one slice, even though I eat a whole pizza usually. I found out a few days later that y’all changed the recipe, and that the things you changed were exactly what tasted so bad about the pizza I ate. The new garlic crust was the worst, the new cheese almost as bad, and the sauce wasn’t too noticeable, so the only good thing is that the sauce didn’t change much otherwise the whole pizza was a failure. I gave it another chance a few days ago and that one was just as bad as the first. This is one loyal dominos customer who wants his refund and his old pizza back. Will not order again until option for old pizza style is back.

If you liked dominos pizza before you are not one to critisize food. We all know the cheapest, easiest, and most substainable ingredients go into making a fast pizza at an affordable price. The people that like dominos are the same people that go to macdonalds three times a week and order a plain cheeseburger, they know nothing of good quality food. The past couple of years dominos has been marketing alot of new prouducts and they finally realized they need to hit the nail on the head. MAKE BETTER PIZZA. The only reason alot of people order from dominos is the price. Dominos has finially realized if the quality of the pizza is there they can expand thier market to many more pizza lovers.

When I logged on to the website I saw that they had changed the sauce recipe, adding red peppers. I called our local store and was told that this wasn’t given as an option, but that it applied to all of their red sauce. What were they thinking? Not everyone wants red peppers, and those who do can add them. There are some, as in my family, who CAN NOT EAT THEM. Thank God I was looking on-line rather than just ordering over the phone. That would have been disastrous! Now after over 30 years of ordering pizza from Dominos we can NEVER do so again. I am so disappointed in this company, especially as a former delivery driver. They had a great product, but now it’s ruined for many people. They’ll be losing a lot more customers than just us. I urge Dominos to change this policy and return to the previous recipe. Perhaps it could be offered as an option, rather than forcing such a radical change on everyone.

Are you guys too young to remember the New Coke / Old Coke disaster? I’ve been ordering Domino’s for over 25 years, but I find the new crust inedible. We order pizza for our kids once a week. We’re looking for a local place for next week. It’s been a nice 25 years. Good bye and good luck.

Mixed feelings on this; having had both pepperoni and cheese varieties, I must say I prefer the cheese. The garlic on the pepperoni pizza was overpowering to the point of making me not want to eat it (and I like garlic normally, it’s just too much). I think you have the right idea, but please cut some of the garlic-it’s too strong, especially on the crust. The cheese pizza was very good, though-the sauce and the cheese itself definitely showed a marked improvement, and I tip my hat (or would, if I had one) to you for the innovation-it takes bravery to make such a radical change to an established norm at any time, but especially during a recession.

I’m pretty sure there isn’t way to make a pizza taste better on a national level without seriously dropping some money and commitment. I honestly do not see that happening. Your pizza tastes different. I’m not sure that better is the word for to describe it. When your pizza arrived the box was completely saturated with garlic oil. It leaked out and on to the table it was sitting on.
-Good Luck

I appreciate the revamp-effort, but I really, REALLY liked Dominoes pizza before. Before, it had a great crust, perfectly fluffy cornicione, and with the cornmeal on the bottom, kinda felt like it was made in a mom-and-pop pizzaria. Now it seems like the sauce is too thick and the crust’s been greased-up and dismissed. I hate to say it, but it tastes closer to Pizza Hut now (bleh!). I still love you Domino’s, but you had it right before.
they need to take a look at how local pizzarias make their pizza, thats what real new york pizza is like and thats by far the best pizza youll find. “reinventing” that mass produced microwave pizza garbage into a slightly better version isnt going to help much, they need their pizza to start looking and tasting like the ny pizza everyone loves.

I agree with all of the above. My husband and I have been waiting to try this new pizza and we were not very impressed. It was just too greasy. Both pizza boxes had big grease rings underneath where the pizza is, previously, it would not be that bad. You would maybe have a few, little spots. I always preferred Domino’s, to local pizza places, because it did not come in that box soaked in grease. But all in all, it is still the best delivery in my area I think. Change is always hard to deal with when it comes to our everyday comforts so I won’t be turning my back on you Domino’s, but I do hope you keep working on that greasy, nasty problem.

The people on here who said that they ordered the pizza and couldn’t even finish it are being ridiculous. It’s completely in your head. The pizza is good, it’s not overwhelmingly good, but it’s definitely edible. Anyone who suggests otherwise, in my opinion, isn’t a credible source and are just throwing a hissy fit because they hate change.
I tried the new pizza a couple of days ago. The crust has the texture of Domino’s Bronx pizza and simply has butter and garlic spread on the crust ends (oh my, how dare they do something so crazy!! lol) The sauce taste more grown up–slightly more spicy and complex, but nothing dramatic at all. Seriously, reading some of the comments on here is like listening to whiny children who aren’t getting their way even though they’re being handed a better toy.

I applaud Dominoes for using negative customer feedback in a marketing campaign. Takes a lot of courage from a company standpoint to run a campaign such as this. 99% of the companies out there would never throw themselves under the bus as Dominoes has done. I will be trying the new pizza this weekend and will report back. BTW- i personally thought the old pizza recipe was nothing to rave about.
